Dinner Group

I love 'em. Last summer I was in one with 12 people, and since we ate together M-Th, it meant I only had to cook in the rotation every three weeks. I had lots of fun with the people in the group, and I enjoyed not always having to ponder what to cook for dinner. We ate such good food, and it was just a great experience overall. Today in my nutrition class we even talked about the benefits of dinner groups.

Others succeed at doing them year-round. I, however, am not usually available with a schedule that works to eat dinner at a usual time during Fall/Winter. So for me, Spring/Summer is a perfect time to jump on the nutritional bandwagon.

Anyone going to be in Provo Spring/Summer with me? Wanna make a dinner group together? :)

By the way, I realize I've used the phrase "last summer" in many of my recent posts. It was fun, okay? But I really do enjoy life right now, too. I promise! :)

Planting Pot

A plant can be a person's best friend. As Whitney taught me, a plant gives someone the chance to learn how to love because it will love you back unconditionally. It grows when you take care of it and it looks pretty, but it also gives you a sense of accomplishment because you know that you've watered it often enough that it will stay alive. I did that. (Or at least contributed to that.)

Last summer a fiasco occurred with the light fixtures on the chandelier above our kitchen table. I won't go into all the details, but just know that it required a trip to The Home Depot. While at the store, I saw a cute little plant that was only $2. I snatched it up and decided to make it my friend. I don't think I have a picture of its original size, but soon it grew too big to fit in its store-provided pot. One trip to Honk's Dollar Store later, my friend had a new home in a happy blue pail:

It grew and grew until it reached our cabinets. No longer was it convenient to have as a decoration for our kitchen. I knew the poor little guy wanted to spread out some more, so I again trekked to The Home Depot and bought a pot and water tray. All of the pre-colored pots were out of my budget, so I bought the plain clay colored one. Feeling crafty, I decided I should explore the idea of painting it. Michael's was the place to go, and I lucked out in randomly happening upon the week of a paint sale. My painting adventure began:

I poured my heart out for my little friend. He would not be neglected. Not on my watch. I even had blood, sweat, and tears over it! Okay, just blood:
...but still a worthy cause, right? [I accidentally sliced my pinkie while I was trying to get the plastic off of the paint lid, and it bled kind of badly for a while. Not to be gross, but you can see that the Band-aid was quickly soaking up my blood!]

Finally, I finished with my masterpiece. I was a little mocked for spending my evening recreationally painting a pot, but I had fun with it.After transferring my little buddy to his new home, I had to find a new place for him to rest.
Now, I imagine my little guy going through adolescence; he's in a bit of an awkward stage. Just like junior high for ...well... everyone, he just got a new look, and he doesn't quite fit where he sits. He's too little to honestly be upon the floor as decoration, but nowhere else could he find a sufficient solar energy source. I have faith he'll grow into his potential, but it will take some time and nurturing.

What? Did you think the title of the post meant that I want to grow some marijuana??

Summer Fever

Today I was ill. I caught the fever. Summer Fever, that is. The weather has just been lovely and sunny lately, and due to a minimal amount of stress in my life this week, I've been craving the summer fun of Provo. Remember last summer? It was so good. Some highlights...

Sidewalk Chalk -- it can be so entertaining, even if I am no longer 8. Four Square and Hopscotch are quite wonderful, too.

Croquet! And fresh grass in my toes! And friends playing at my home!

Utah Lake with Lovely Friends and Wardies!

Parades, National Holidays, Family, and Sitting in Bright Sunlight!

Road Trips, Magical Places, Roller Coasters, Vacations, and Friends I'll have Forever!

Lots of enthusiasm, I know. But wouldn't you be so happy if you had such a good summer? Can this summer be just as fun or even more so, please? And maybe even throw in a wish for its quick arrival, okay?

Sometimes I Forget...

how much running isn't my forte.

that the stupid newspaper people call me a bajillion times every 3 months or so since I retardedly made the mistake of buying the newspaper once upon a time.

what the purpose of homework is.

just how many friends I have that are getting married or putting in papers/receiving mission calls.

cookies in the oven:
(Poor little guys. Can you tell which ones were forgotten?)

Then I Remember...

how good it feels to exercise and enjoy the beautiful morning breeze.

that I still don't know how to get these weirdos to quit calling me, but it doesn't mean I have to "get my panties in a wad" over it. (10 points!)

how good I feel after I've had a productive day and how much I love to learn!

that I'll quickly be reminded of everyone's joy when I check facebook. And, my lack of either of these steps in my own life does NOT mean that I can't likewise feel joy.

that those cookies should quit cookin'... (and I only remembered when my good friend Rachel pointed out the burning smell. haha.)

So does this mean I'm a forgetful person? Or one with a good memory?

Ice Skating

A few weekends ago, a group of guys in the ward invited a ton of people to go ice skating one Friday night. Being true to the form of many group events, the group turned out to not be so big. But that's what makes activities fun, right?! We went over to Seven Peaks and had quite a bit of fun for about an hour and a half.

Me, Whitney, and Lauren....

slightly falling down:

Much of the group:
(Whitney, Lauren, Ryan, Sean, Gina, and Curtis)

You get the picture... I'll quit labeling.
Go ice skating. Now. You deserve a break, and if you don't fall (which I didn't), you'll enjoy it! :)

(Plus also, despite the posed pictures along the side of the rink, we really did skate for the majority of the time!)
