Cereal

So when I first got here, I went to the Creamery to buy some cereal. I saw some bran flakes with raisins, so I snatched them up. However, I must have snatched the wrong box because it turned out to be just bran flakes. When the siblings came over to my dorm and saw my box of cereal, they were appalled at my lack of good taste. I kind of agreed, but it was edible.

A while later when my box of cereal was empty, I went back to the store and bought some Frosted Mini Wheats. Those are a lot tastier. However, I'm almost done with those now, too. Since Emily and Jon have a Costco membership, they decided to get me some cereal for my birthday. One day Emily called and listed off all the cereal choices (keep in mind these were in packs because it's Costco) and asked what I wanted. I went for the triple pack of chex, since I like all three. So, today at Sibdin, Emily and Jon gave me a birthday gift of a giant box of chex. Thanks, guys!

My favorite is probably the corn chex (but, like I said, I like all three). Emily thinks I'm weird because I don't even put sugar on my chex. So, I'm curious. What's your favorite chex cereal? And do you eat it with sugar?

Cougar Marching Band Star of the Week (at least on this blog)

I have a sister in the Cougar Marching Band. Her name is Rebecca. Let's meet her, shall we?

She and the other band members like to make pretty formations on the football field. Here are some of the band members in action:

The band especially likes to make a giant "Y." I guess they don't realize that people with 9th row seats in the south endzone can hardly make out what is being spelled. Maybe in the future they should form the "Y" facing north to south, don't you think? How do you think one petitions for that to happen? :)

Remember how I said I'd introduce you to Rebecca? Well, she likes to play the clarinet, and I guess because she's a drill-instructor equivalent (what's the term I'm looking for?), she gets to be on the end of the clarinet row. She's got one wicked twist in that waist of hers. Check out how her shoulders are facing the sideline. That's the sign of a seasoned marching band expert. After all, she did say she is starting to like pepper more. How's that for seasoning?

And finally, for the grand finale, we have an expertly shot close up of Miss Blake. Her sister must be a huge fan since she takes great pictures like this one. Also, I've personally seen that she (Rebecca's sister) wears a Cougar Band hat to every football game. What a gal.(Yay, Beckie!)

Cougar Football!!

(In case you didn't notice, the title is a link.)

I love my seat for football games! [Sorry, Spence :( . ] Today we played UCLA and won 59 -0! It was such a fun game, because we just kept getting touchdown after touchdown. I especially liked my seat for this game, because most of the touchdowns we got were in the endzone I was sitting right next to. Here are a few pictures from the game, although I didn't ever get a great picture of a touchdown.


This is a point after kick. If you look closely you can see the ball and tell that we did indeed earn an extra point.
I didn't aim or zoom quite right and a few arms got in the way, but look at our guy on the left side of the picture. He's inches away from getting a touchdown, and right out of the grasp of the UCLA guy behind him.
I had some of the same issues as before, but I also had the angle working against me this time. Number 32 is about to catch a touchdown pass in this pic, but obviously his back is in the way for me to have caught it on camera.
Here's a play that I thought would be the scoring play, but they turned out to not quite make it (until the next play). If you look at the top left corner and see the big mob of people on the ground, that's because they just tackled the BYU guy a few yards in front of the endzone.
I think this was the field goal kick, but I might be mistaken and it could just be another point after kick. Either way, he made it.
Go Cougars! The game was so much fun!

Collapse of the Cannon Center

Lately I've been quite familiar with this machine. In fact, it creates a lot of dust and is really loud. And just look at the mess it's made! (I forgot to take a before picture, but maybe you can remember the old Cannon Center. Probably not, since you didn't live here.)



About two weeks ago, there was a building here.

But don't be worried. I still get All-You-Can-Eat meals every day at the new Cannon Center. Plus, it seems a lot nicer (though I never went inside the old one). I need to make sure I don't gain the Freshman 15 with all the yummy food available to me!

Bike Accident

I had a wee little accident that involved my bike, a hill, and some bushes. I guess I was a little too indecisive yesterday when I started riding down the hill; I started down, then I decided to walk my bike down so that I wouldn't run over someone, should they happen to pass by. Well, apparently that wasn't a smart idea because I was already going too fast. Even though I used my brakes, I still wasn't stopping. So, me being the idiot that I am, I kind of veered off into the bushes next to the sidewalk. When my arm started getting scratched up, I kind of made the choice to 'roll' off my bike. Somehow I must've landed on my left wrist in the process of doing this, because when I finally started walking down with my bike, my wrist was killing me.

A car was passing by right when I fell off, so I made sure to quickly leap back up to retrieve my bike; it's already embarrassing enough that they saw me fall, but I certainly didn't want someone driving by to ask if I was okay. That seems like the type of cruel thing a Utahn would do.

These are some pictures of the damage that was done (although it is really hard to see in the pictures). My arm and hand got scratched up, and I got a little strawberry on my left elbow. Probably the most painful, though, was my left wrist. It's been stiff and painful ever since the 'accident' (Haha Haven't you always wanted to say that? :D). Last night I slept with some ice on it, and today it's been slowly feeling better. I don't think anything too serious happened, but I'll sure be glad to be back to my regular good ole' wrist!



I don't think I'll be riding my bike again any time soon. At least not down any hills, that is.

• At the Cannon Center, I try to eat a salad at every lunch and dinner.
• I hate finding hairs all over the place, but it's especially gross when it's not my hair.
• I am afraid of the sound of an insect buzzing by, no matter what insect it is. They remind me of bees, and I don't like those.
• I usually have to set two alarms to wake up, but many times I just turn them both of and go back to sleep.
• If I'm being particularly lazy but I know I need to get up and do something, lots of times I tell myself, "Okay. I'll get up on the count of ten." Then I proceed to count down from 10 to 0 in my head. Sometimes, it takes me a few times of counting and I usually start counting slower the closer I get to being finished.
• If I'm at the computer for a long period of time, I usually put a CD in or turn on some type of music.

Little Tommy Tucker Sings for his Supper

So all you beggars, how much does a meal cost at the Sky Room anyway? I'm not sure how to tell when I'll have enough money racked up to take anyone to eat. And who wants to sing me a song?... Tommy Tucker had to sing to get his meal. :D

And, in the spirit of food, I've decided to share with you all this aesthetic picture of a bowl of eggs that Mom cracked open. Very pleasing to the eye, eh? I took this in June, but I don't think I've had the opportunity to share it yet.... have I?

Dorm Life

So here's the new crib, guys! I like it a lot (probably because I haven't been in it enought to get sick of it yet).


This is the far away shot of my side of the room (aka my bed). (Mom, did you notice that my bed is made? I told you I'd make it when I got up here. :D)
Here's a little more up close of my wall hangings. That's the Living Christ hanging that Mom gave us all and the tile-like image of "Precious in His Sight." Plus my loud and proud Texas flag.
This is a little nook for the air conditioning or something. Basically it worked out well to hang my "Heidi -- Daughter of God" up there.
As of now, the only thing I'm missing on my wall is my Texas license plate, which I haven't really figured out how to hang. I need to buy some sticky tack. I also have a desk and the sink is near my bed, but I'll have to take pictures of those when they're cleaning and my homework isn't spread all around.

Disconnected from the world

I'm ashamed to admit that I must depend on the computer too much. As I got my new computer set up in my dorm, I didn't have interenet for a while. I first needed antivirus protection and an ethernet cable. Today (obviously) I finally got those set up!! I'm glad to be connected to people again. The beginning of a semester is a hard time to not have the internet, because I've needed to check / set-up various money accounts (for food and housing) and needed to get my schedule, etc. Thanks so much for the computer, Mom, and for all the help setting it up, Eric! I'm blessed to have one.

I've been so busy since I got up to Utah -- I've run so many errands (shopping for stuff) and been busy with various New Student Orientation activities and family activities. It's been fun, but I've hardly had time to get to know my roommate very well (Jenessa Smith); since I've been gone so much, and she lives 20 minutes away, she's been gone a lot, too. For some dumb reason, we were also in different NSO groups even though we're in the same Freshmen Academy group. Oh well.

I promise I'll update with more pictures of my new home later; I'm too tired of downloading things today to get up the energy to download the camera stuff. Plus, I think it's time for dinner at the ever-faithful Cannon Center! :)
