The new "thing"

Photography. I do believe it is the latest "thing" for my generation. Maybe it's just Utah, maybe it's just college-aged girls, maybe it's all over. I'm not sure, but I do know that I know of many people who have started their own photography shindigs.

Why is this?

I'm not going to lie; most, if not all of the people that I know who have done this actually are very talented. I really enjoy seeing their photos and wishing that I were that good at photography.

However, I am quite positive that I will never take the photography venture myself. First off, if I were to ever attract any business, I would feel like I was scamming my customer since I have had zero photography instruction. Plus, I don't have one of those fancy-schmancy, costs an arm and a leg cameras. Add that to the fact that I'm not interested in trying to start my own business in anything, and you pretty much have a guarantee that I'll never be one of those "invite you to become a fan of my photography on facebook because how else does a college person start a business on the side" people.

Props to those who are willing to make a little money with their skillz, but I'm afraid I'll never join you. I like to think that I have other talents that just aren't or shouldn't be marketed. :)

Sleep and Study

When I get drowsy in class, my hand usually slips and makes lines across my page of notes. I also start writing letters on top of each other. I think this one is because my brain is still forming letters, but it is too tired to tell my hand to move to the right for each new letter. Apparently, I also write random things in my notes when I'm tired.

My favorite part of studying today? Finding this in my notes:

"What drives plate motion?
Convection starts in the mantle & little children will move around."

Wow, Heidi.

Happy Birthday, Rebecca!

Raise your hand if you're familiar with my sister Rebecca.

Oh, you're not?
Maybe these pictures will help:

Currently, Rebecca is serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Peru Trujillo Mission.

Becca loves music! She has been in the BYU Marching Band playing the clarinet throughout her entire career here at BYU.

Clearly, the picture says it all. Rebecca gets silly sometimes, but she's especially hilarious at night right before she goes to bed! I loved growing up sharing a bedroom with her, and I hope that one day when she gets back from her mission we'll get to be roommates again!

Sometimes we like to almost be twins on purpose, especially when we're going out in public and want others to appreciate our corniness.
I edited this picture quite a while ago, but I love that it is still true; Bec is one of my bestest friends!

I have literally watched this video over and over again. This is what I watch on the days when I particularly miss my big sis. Why? Because it's darn hilarious, I think! Now do you believe me about the aforementioned nighttime silliness?! (I also love that I can hear Mom busting a gut in the background, too.) This was taken sometime in the month that Rebecca was home before she left for her mission. She was quite tired and knelt down to say her prayer, but somehow ended up giggling about rolling "R"s. That somehow led to her saying "Rrrrrrump" and thinking it was SO funny! :D Haha. I'd have to agree with her, but only because of this video. :D I also like how this video shows how Rebecca sometimes gets "scared" of me. The part where she says, "Uh oh" is because she looked up at me. I'm really not that scary of a person, but I can intimidate Rebecca pretty easily. I think this comes from a few wrestling matches we had in our younger days. You can bet that I always won! :) (Just ask Spencer...)

Well, that's my sister in a nutshell. Today (the 10th, as opposed to what the date on my post says because I'm up so late) was Rebecca's 22nd birthday! Happy birthday, siddo! I love you!
A treasure I found once on my camera....

General Conference

I just LOVE General Conference! How great it is to hear words from our living prophets specifically for us today! This year, since I've been in Utah for a while now and have yet to attend General Conference at the actual Conference Center, I decided to fix that.

After a slight change-a-roo of plans, Jennifer and I decided to attend the Saturday morning session together. I had to go stand-by, and Jennifer waited with me (even though she technically had a ticket) so that we could sit by each other. We woke up at the crack of dawn (at least that's what it felt like!) and went up to Salt Lake. Eric was great and dropped us off downtown so we wouldn't have to worry about having to find a parking spot. We were quickly herded to a line right outside the Conference Center, where we waited for prolly an hour in the cold. And boy, was it cold! I even wore both pairs of my gloves and put on some fuzzy socks over my nylons (it made my shoes have a very tight fit, but I preferred the pain of too tight of shoes to the pain of cold toes). Jen provided the snacks while we waited. :)

After the time outside, we were herded inside and through the security where we waited for another hour or so inside the Conference Center, but in a belted off area. We felt like sardines! It was a great time to people watch (I even saw some people that I knew who actually had acquired tickets), but it was not a great time for personal space. We were tired, tired of standing, and ready to go in by the time we were let loose at 10 when the session was starting.

On our way up to the empty seats, the whole mob of people who were let loose all tried to go up the escalators at once. Unfortunately, the set-up of the escalators did not allow for this. You see, it takes two escalators to get up to the next available floor, and there is a landing between the two. At first we innocently rode up the first escalator. However, when we got close to the top (the landing area), we got all jammed up because the landing was already full of people! It was quite an odd feeling seeing that you're going to crash into people but not being able to do anything about it because you're on a moving escalator and can't move back down! Eventually we got out of the jam on the landing and up the second escalator, but not without some major chuckling.

The session was fabulous, as they always are. I loved being able to hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in such close proximity, and the messages were very inspiring. I thought it was cool that in this particular session there were two talks addressed specifically to women. Near the end, I admit that I was getting a little sleepy. However, Jennifer woke me up by whispering to me, "Remember that time on the escalator....?" I silently laughed... so hard, in fact, that I was practically crying. Haha! You really should have seen the looks on people's faces as we rode that escalator! :D

Here we are after the session. You can see how "great" our seats were, but at least we got in!

Outside, but I think you can see that. :)

The beautiful Salt Lake Temple.

The Conference Center. It's so cool to think that all those people swarming around outside were just a small percentage of the people listening to our inspired leaders!

I'm really glad I got to go this year, but I'll probably try to get tickets if I ever go in the future. Thanks for comin' with me, Jen!
Did you do anything cool for Conference?
